Why does commercial coffee taste and smell bad??
Coffee tip: Why does most store bought big
company coffee taste and smell bad and have light colored pieces mixed
in? Commercial coffee is a mix of Arabica and Robusta coffee. Arabica is
good, sweet coffee, but is prone to disease and costs
more. Robustu is disease resistant and cheap and can be harvested by
machine - it also roasts to a lighter color. The big corporate
skinflints add it to increase their profits. Then they outgas the
roasted coffee so they can eliminate the 2 cent one way valve that keeps
oxygen out (in other words, they make the coffee stale so it won't get
any more stale!) By the way, 10 or more years ago, when coffee came in
16 ounce cans, even the commercial coffee smelled and looked good, and
even tasted OK (despite being stale.) So now you know... The rest of the
story! (Drink only fresh roasted coffee...)
